“No Sex Tourists From Canada” Vivian Trill's Appeal to Canadians:

San Pedro Belize Sex Tourism

I ‘m now calling on Canadians to send an Appeal to the Belize and US governments to address human trafficking in Belize.  The ORT Belize tourism boycott is gaining strong Canadian web awareness with so many of you letting Canadians and more people worldwide know about the fight against human trafficking in Belize.  The boycott is only one part of the campaign.

We are not asking Belize to form dud commissions, produce origami paper studies or hold macramé conferences.  In our Appeal, we have made some specific recommendations for addressing the Belize human trafficking superhighway. We want action, as do you.

We are not against Belize. We are merely the messengers.  ORT has sent out a number of Appeals to Belize, each time offering to work in partnership with Prime Minister Barrow’s government to address human trafficking crime.

Under the American anti-trafficking in persons act, Belize has the option to negotiate with the US to avoid worst human trafficking offender status and avert possible economic sanction.

Organization for Responsible Tourism (ORT) today released in Canada an Appeal to the Belize government to address human trafficking, with ORT Chair Betty Philips calling on Canadians to endorse the petition’s specific recommendations, targeted at Belize

The Appeal recommends that in upcoming reviews and negotiations, the two countries establish a commitment that Belize will

  • Strengthen and enforce its immigration policies – regulate border protocol
  • Strengthen and enforce liquor licensing laws – address forced prostitution
  1. Actions such as establishing inexpensive and easily implemented immigration procedures would go a long way toward blocking human traffickers.  For a start, monitoring bribery at the Melchor border would stop taxis going through with human trafficking victims in their trunks.
  2. Thousands of women trafficking victims wind up in forced prostitution in Belize ficha bars.  Actions such as fines and liquor license suspension for San Pedro Ambergris Caye bar owners found profiting from on-premises prostitution would block the traffickers’ wholesale flow.
  3. ORT’s campaign is different.  We have used our team’s unusual tech skills to harness the force of Internet and social media as a powerful instrument.  We are not using it to ask for a vague halt to human trafficking in Belize.  We have specific recommendations for real action in Belize. And we don’t ask for money.  We ask for action.  Canadians, please send the Appeal to the US and Belize. Ask them for a win-win on human trafficking.
