My name is James Fredrick Jensen I am a Canadian that lived in Belize on the Island of San Pedro, this is another chapter of my Novella about the time that past after my Wife Janis Died.
My wife Janis is still to this day an amazing woman and influence on my life. I have endured more then one person should have in an entire life time. For me that life time covered a few short years on the Island of San Pedro in Belize. After Jan’s death I was left with facing a $200,000 medical bill from the hospital that treated or attempted to treat Jan. Our Bupa health insurance policy denied all coverage of my wife Janis’s medical care in Belize. Leaving me with a Civil case facing the supreme court of Belize. The Insurance Policy Jan and I had purchased to cover medical care was from Bupa Insurance through a company in Belize called RF&G Insurance. RF&G Insurance is owned by The Roe Group of Companies which is a privately held company and one of the fastest growing business groups in the country of Belize. For nearly a half-century, the Roe Group with companies that have contributed to Belize’s growth in multiple industries reaching from insurance to hotels and distribution to manufacturing and financial services. The Roe Group of Companies for the most part covers a wide range of Industries in Belize. Jan and I owned a Bar on the island of San Pedro in Belize called the Liquor Box. One of The Roe Group of Companies called Madisco Marketing supplied a variety of NON alcoholic products to the Liquor Box. Madisco Marketing & Distribution Co. Ltd. Madisco is a giant of food service and wholesale products. The Roe Group of Companies also owns Caribbean Tobacco Company of Belize. The Roe Group interesting is a company selling Health Insurance through RF&G Insurance in Belize is also the only supplier of Tobacco products for the entire Country of Belize. We have seen how these kinds of relationships have worked out in the US. For the most part the The Roe Group of Companies in the case of Insurance through RF&G Insurance has no liability they RF&G are no more then reps for companies like Bupa out of Miami.In my case RF&G Insurance of Belize simply stated to my Attorney Robert P. Martin of Bailey and Wyant that Bupa was the Insurance company not RF&G. Even pushing our case further with the help of Robert P. Martin all the way to The Roe Group directly nothing. After a year of fighting to get some kind of coverage I lost my case in Belize. The looser in this was Belize Health Partners the Hospital that treated my wife Jan. Belize Health Partners had a long history of dealing with RF&G Insurance. One can only imaging the frustration for a small private hospital dealing with the The Roe Group of Belize a giant of a company.
