Penny Fioravante was a partner with Martin in a resort they jointly owned in Belize called the Pink Motel based on the Island of San Pedro in Belize.
Jensen Jensen is a retired Canadian whom with his wife Janis a US citizen had moved to Central America and owned Bars, Wholesale and Retail Liquor businesses in Honduras, Belize and Mexico. In Belize the Jensen's owned a Liquor operations called The Liquor Box, Adiferous Wines and Liquor's, and Partnerships with Royal Wholesale. The Jensen's Liquor holdings were one of the largest in Central America. The Jensen's worked on funding those in Need in Honduras and Belize. Interests included, Coffee and Cocoa Co-ops, Bikes not Bombs and Human Trafficking projects.
Jensen and Janis had prior to Janis death started establishing a Co-op in Punta Gorda with the support and help of a man named Wil Maheia an influential politician in Punta Gorda and the head of a large NGO in the region. Wil Maheia worked helping the Roses raise fund for there Crocodile Sanctuary through a 501 (c) 3 based in Mobile Alabama American Friends of Belize.
Robert P. Martin and the firm of Bailey and Wyant represented the interests of the Jensen's which included Corporate work, real estate, estate planning, wills and trusts on the Jensen's behalf. Martin and Fioravante purchased the Pink Motel in 2007 from Hollywood Realty based in San Pedro Belize. Mr. Martin had other banking and investments in Belize.
Jensen Jensen wife Janis died suddenly from a brain aneurysm in June of 2008 in Belize City while undergoing treatment to save her life. The cranial autopsy showed that Janis had a cluster of blood vessels that broke in her brain called A VMA. The health insurance company covering the Jensen's denied all health insurance coverage. Jensen Jensen was sued in Belize by the Hospital that treated Janis. Bailey and Wyant PLLC acted as Jensen Jensen US attorneys to defend Jensen in this case as the health provider was US based.
Shortly after Janis Death Jensen was introduced to Vince and Cherie Chenot Rose of ACES by Tamara Sniffin the Publisher of the San Pedro Sun Newspaper based in San Pedro Belize in Early July of 2008. Jensen eventually invested with the Roses in a Liquor operation based in Punta Gorda Belize. A need existed for a retail and wholesale liquor operation in Punta Gorda. The Roses owned a commercial building in Punta Gorda which was transformed into Adiferous Wines and Liquors which opened in November of 2008. Jensen through his existing Liquor business in Belize supplied Wholesale Liquor products to the operation in Punta Gorda and owned 40% of the business with the Roses.
From September of 2008 to December of 2008 Martin and Fioravante regularly traveled to Belize to oversee the Pink Motel to discuss with Jensen the legal actions by the Hospital in Belize and to discuss other business interests of the parties involved.
The Roses saw that American Friends of Belize planned to close the operation sometime in 2009 causing concern for the Roses of how they would continue to raise funds for the operation. During this period of time numerous trips and conversations took place between all parties about establishing a US based NGO similar to American Friends of Belize.
Jensen regularly traveled to Punta Gorda to oversee the Liquor operation and to continue his wife Janis interests she had in developing a Co-op in Punta Gorda. In meetings with Wil Maheia and with the Roses in October and November of 2008 it was suggested that a 501 (c) 3 might be able to integrate the co-op into land owned by the Roses as a processing facility and to also make ACES a part of the 501 (c) 3.
Jensen discussed this idea with Martin and Fioravante and in December of 2008 Martin Organized a Delaware Corp. The Belize Economic & Ecological Development Fund. Jensen had expressed concerns about how the 501 (c) 3 would operate. Martin decided prior to organizing the Corp and 501 (c) 3 to test this concept by making a donation of $20,000 US to American Friends of Belize with ACES being the recipient of the donation. This did work however in dealing with Diana Strum the director of American Friends of Belize concerns rose. She was rude, arrogant and forceful.
