The story now continues after I am freed from Hattieville Central Prison in Belize and I have returned to Honduras.
I meet a woman by chance, a Danish Journalist I will call LD, who had been covering Human Trafficking thus the use of Vivian’s network today. We shared common interests and she did what Journalists do she investigated my story.
She also felt I needed to pursue my legal rights with Bupa Insurance based in Florida. Bupa’s purpose is to help people lead longer, healthier, happier lives. This is what you will find by looking at Bupa’s web site. http://www.bupa.com/
Bupa is like all large global health care providers if you understand my point. When Jan and I purchased our Bupa Health care package we received a card from Bupa Health care in the case of the need for health care services we were to call Bupa that minute to have any health care services approved.
I tried contacting Bupa on the 800 number provided on the Card that it took most of a Day to get through, I also contacted the Belize based insurance company that sold us the policy. RF&G Insurance of Belize. They reacted and send representatives to the hospital. Some comfort they seamed concerned.
Within hours of this Bupa Health Care of Miami informed the Hospital and RF&G Insurance of Belize that no coverage was provided due to the fact that Jan was within the 90 day waiting period. No one had ever told us that a 90 day waiting period existed.
The doctor taking care of Jan took me aside and told me that RF&G Insurance and Bupa had asked him to write a medical opinion of Jan’s condition. He felt Bupa was looking for a way out of providing coverage.
With Jan in now critical condition the hospital Belize Health Partners told me I needed to make a payment of $20,000 or Jan would have to be moved to a public health care facility in Belize. I paid the $20,000.00.
Through all this day I am on the phone with Robert P. Martin of Bailey & Wyant, PLLC, is a full-service law firm who represented Jan’s interests. I could see that spending a day on this had taken me from Jan. I sat beside her and we talked I new she was in grave condition. I was scared.
