Diana Bond - John McAfee
The Organization for Responsible Tourism joins with John McAfee in calling for international media to examine Belize government corruption. Whatever McAfee's involvement in the crime that has made him a person of interest to the Belize authorities, he's right to hide for his safety. The justice system in Belize is not an even platform, it is an arena for settling scores. The police are a leverage for fear and the enforcement arm of a greedy and infected regime. From the most vulnerable to the powerful who fall from the good graces of the Belize government, being hosted by the Belize authorities is often fatal. That McAfee did not enjoy a good relationship with his neighbors or the authorities is clear. However, his situation puts international spotlight on how running afoul of the Dean Barrow government puts your life at risk. Friend of Diana Bond and the Organization for Responsible Tourism, James Fredrick Jensen, knows from up front personal experience the consequences of not paying the right people, of being set up and then enduring remand in Hattieville Prison, all on fudged charges that were later dismissed. His life remains in danger, still hunted by people the Belize government continues to help. Don't forget this is a country where the government makes a lot of black money maintaining a human trafficking superhighway. In other words, they have something of a speciality and a high degree of skill in "disappearing" people. John McAfee has joined a long list of people who know that when the Belize government says "respect our laws" it really means run for your life.
